Popularly known as ecstasy or MDMA. A synthetic psychoactive drug that is usually consumed as a pill or capsule, producing feelings of increased energy, euphoria, emotional warmth, empathy, and sensory distortions. The drug works by increasing the activity of three neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine; effects can last three to six hours. Commonly taken in multiple doses or used in conjunction with other recreational drugs. The most dangerous potential adverse effect is a marked rise in temperature that requires prompt medical attention.
