Indicates the position of lying on the back. Various decubitus positioning may be described using terms such as dorsal, ventral, left lateral, or right lateral. Decubitus also serves as a former term related to pressure sores (i.e., using “decubitus ulcer” to refer to a type and/or location of a pressure sore that developed in a dependent area of the body, often related to lying in a certain position for extended periods).
