Screening is a population-based intervention offered to an identified key population that attempts to detect medical conditions in individuals and groups that are not experiencing signs and symptoms of illness. It is a key strategy of preventative medicine and should be distinguished from diagnosis and active case finding. (UNAIDS Terminology Guidelines, 2015)
